WHERE'S HOT AND WHERE'S NOT An article in the May, 1999 issue of Forbes magazine ranked Sioux Falls, South Dakota #22 in the "Forbes' Best Places in America for Business and Carriers" study.

The scoring is a summation of the rankings of 162 metro areas in eight categories:
   1. Average wage and salary increase 1993 to 1997.
   2. 1996 to 1997 average wage and salary increase vs. the average 1993 to 1997
   increase.
   3. 1993 to 1998 job growth rate.
   4. 1997 to 1998 job growth vs. average 1993 to 1998 rate.
   5. Number of technology clusters (measures business activity in 13 different
   technology areas).
   6. Overall concentration of technology activity (relative to national average).
   7. Technology output growth 1990 to 1998.
   8. Technology output growth 1996 to 1998.
